Not many people know the effects of a life of addiction as much as Mr Thuso Masilo. For twenty years, his life was a wrangled mess of addiction to cigarettes, marijuana, drinking alcohol and masturbation. Binge drinking was a way of life and smoking was like second nature to him. Retracing his steps to the genesis of all these problems, he recalled that he was initiated into the life of addiction after his first job appointment in the year 1993. With the salary he was receiving he was able to finance his addiction. After sometime, his lifestyle of drinking and smoking gave way to another addiction; masturbation. He began to masturbate. Although a sense of guilt would twine his conscience, he would ask himself why he allowed himself to succumb to such immorality but despite this momentary soul-search, he was unable to resist the rampaging urge. As a result, his addiction to masturbation grew in scope and intensity.

Later in life, he got married but even his marriage was not spared as he continued to satisfy himself. Consequently, there was lack of affection between him and his wife and this gave birth to tension and strife in his household. As the heat of his marital problems intensified, he found solace in his addictions; he spent most of his time with friends drinking alcohol and paying minimal attention to his family. This put his wife in a difficult position; having to provide to their family alone. Inevitably, this brought arguments and fights between the couple which ended up in separation. In the pool of addiction and quarrels there was no peace in the Masilo household and their marriage was on the verge of collapsing.

When he came to the Gospel of God’s Grace Ministries, it was through the invite of a concerned friend. He attests that he was welcomed by the teachings of the man of God on ‘Character’. According to him, these messages went straight to the core of his heart and he saw it fit to mend his ways. As he frequented church, listened to the word of God, faith was built in his heart and he was delivered from his addiction to alcohol, smoking cigarettes and marijuana. After much of character reformation, God reconciled his marriage and his wife came back home much to the delight of Mr Thuso.

As he continued to journey with God, he received a word of prophecy from the man of God during one Sunday service. “I see steel and it has to do with some form of worship. Now, because of this worship you are in bondage…” stated Prophet Cedric. As he stood up to confirm the prophecy to be true, he was prayed for and declared him free in Jesus’ Name. With his significant character reformation, his wife surprised him and bought him a beautiful car!

With his new-found freedom in Christ, his faith was encouraged and he continued journeying to God. This was evident in a turnabout in his finances and he decided to return the favour to his wife, and bought her a car! On one fateful day, he came across a promotion in one of the hardware stores and decided to take hold of the opportunity, believing that the grace of God would locate him. On the final day of the promotion, he stood armed with the Living Water and a small prayer as one of the two finalists. At the end of the day, God came through for him as he walked away with a brand new Toyota Hilux!

Standing before the congregation to give glory to God, he attested that the year 2013 was the last time he held alcohol, cigarette or marijuana in his hands; this was after his deliverance. Speaking on his marriage, there is no more strife and squabbles in his house and the affection is back. “I give thanks to God for blessing my family!”
