“Anyone who claims to be in the light yet hates his brother, is still in the darkness. [1 John 2:9]
This scripture give a clear picture of what is holding the lives of many people today. Many are prayerful, they frequent God’s house, fast from time to time and as such claim to have light in their lives. Outwardly, they seem to be people of God whereas inwardly, they are not, simply because of their hatred towards their brother and as well the grudges they are holding against their neighbour. Take an example, some of you were married to abusive partners and due to that relationship, you were hurt and as such you are holding a grudge against your previous partner. It is for this very reason that though you are in the church you fail to see the fruits of righteousness. Matthew 7:7 says, ask and it shall be given to you, seek and you shall find, knock and the door shall be opened to you, however this scripture is not a reality for your life.
I want you to understand that as a child of God, forgiveness has no conditions and no limits. In the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus Christ said Father forgive ‘them’ He did not specify who is to be forgiven because he was referring to ‘ALL’. Take note that if you forgive for certain matters and forgo others then you are only setting yourself in the dark; in the hands of the enemy. Failing to forgive others is failing to forgive yourself; the person most hurt by the unforgiving spirit is you. God is going to release the light but if He finds that your heart still has grudges and bad feeling towards others, the light will have no place to land in your life. For our heart is the dwelling place of the light of God in our lives therefore we need to prepare it before the candlelight.
How do we get our hearts ready? We do so by forgiving our offenders. Forgive all who have hurt, even those who have killed your son or daughter. The truth of the matter is that even if you hold on to a grudge due to the magnitude of the offence, you cannot reverse what happened. Why then should you hold on to grudges and invite all manner of sickness and as well keeping yourself hostage? Forgive and release your offenders just as Jesus does the same for you. He never counts our sins against us, so then why should we count the sins of others? Release your offenders so that you may experience the rain of God in your life in 2020.
