For the young Wendy Matlapeng, life had been nothing but a muddle of alcohol, smoking and bad character. Having started school in Zimbabwe, she was the best at all her academic fields but when she later moved to Botswana, all hell broke loose! Things were moving too fast for the young lady and she found herself topsy-turvy amid students who thought they knew life because she wanted to escape the teasing and ruthless name-calling from her peers. On many occasions, they would call her a geek or nerd due to her focus and academic ability therefore in pursuit of pleasing them she felt the need to change and “fit in”. She moved around the school with girls known as ‘queen bees”. After a while her performance gradually declined and she eventually scored grade B in her JCE.
One would think this would ring a bell to her. But No! Her behavior changed from shoddier to nastiest! She started drinking alcohol and smoking cigarrete. She would smoke 30 cigarettes in 6 hours. Guess what! Wendy did all this during school hours, she would bunk lessons just to go and indulge in her alcohol sprees and cigarrete smoking. She was expelled twice from two different schools due to misconduct. The young lady went to the extent of leaving her school books and instead pack alcohol and cigarrete to have “fun” with her friends. Her parents did all in their power to discipline her, they would sit her down, reason with her and sometimes flog her thoroughly but all their efforts proved futile. Wendy wrote her BGCSE and as anticipated, she failed dismally with 19 points but this did not shake her in any way as she sustained the habit of drinking alcohol and smoking.
She later found a job as a waitress and this fueled her alcohol consumption and smoking. She would go to work drunk and this affected her relationship with her supervisors. Several times Wendy has tried to stop smoking by buying expensive nicotine patches and Nicorette gums but all her efforts were unsuccessful instead her cravings intensified. The alcohol consumption also augmented as time went by. Alcohol and smoking had really tainted her conscience; she absolutely had zero character. She got stabbed and hit with a bottle in her drunkenness and as far as Wendy can remember she has committed abortion 4 times!
The invitation to 3G Ministries from her sister came at the right time as she was at the verge of losing it. Just by stepping in the church she was met by power and spirit filled messages by the servant of God, Prophet Cedric. Since then she has never been the same. The urge gradually diminished, she testified that it’s been 6 months now without drinking alcohol or smoking cigarrete all to the glory of God. As if that was not enough Wendy is now back to school studying Early Childhood with one of the renowned institutions in Botswana. The word of God has completely delivered her!
